Where I Wander // Nov. 16 - 19

So... remember when I said this was going to be a weekly thing? Maybe that was a little too much wishful.

Location: Rock Hill, NC

Anywho, this last weekend was incredibly exciting for me. In case you don't know, I work for the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps creating photos, videos, and helping manage their social media sites. While spring training and competitions don't really start for the corps until May or early June, the DCI season truly kicks off during audition season which started for Crown this past weekend. I flew into Charlotte a day early to make sure all my life was situated and also to hang out with some of my best friends before camp started late Friday night.

While I didn't take too many photos of my feet, I took a lot of photos of band (expect a blog post with a photo set extremely soon).

Spending time with Carolina Crown is always really special to me. As someone who has been involved with drum corps media for now four years, it feels good knowing how to be successful with what I'm doing while also continuing to learn, strengthen my skillset, and meet some pretty cool people along the way.

Like I said, stay tuned for another blog post all about my weekend with Carolina Crown during their November camp. Thanks for reading!

Where I Wander // Nov. 1 - 7

Wander. (V) - /ˈwändər/

To walk or move in a leisurely, casual, or aimless way.

In my lifetime, I've done a lot of wandering. At the age of 24 (almost 25), I've lived in five different states, traveled to a handful of different countries, and visited three continents. My shoes have seen a lot of miles, to put it lightly. And I want to share those miles, honest moments, and stories with you.

In this weekly update I'm calling 'Where I Wander,' I'll show you where exactly I've wandered, and tell you why I'm wandering there. I can't guarantee every week will be something special, but sometimes even the mundane of weeks turns out to be full of subtle magic. You just have to look closely enough to find it.

So, here we go - week one of WIW:

Location: Syracuse, NY

The months of October and November are have been ones of growth for me. I've decided to start a journey of being more active and start running and lifting, all culminating in running my first 5K in about two weeks from now. Working 8am to 4pm brings its own challenges, but adding an additional hour of 'work' at the gym has been something that I've struggled with both physically and mentally. Specifically, my feet have suffered a lot. This week, I focused on trying to heal my feet in practical ways. I spent a ridiculous amount of money on new running shoe insoles and running socks to try to quell the discomfort of running 3+ miles four times a week on feet that are still not used to being pushed that much. I took an extra day off from running to try to make sure my body is ready my race. I took extra measures to try to heal blisters and scabs by putting bandaids on them, and just being kind to my body. I think if I've taken anything away from starting this adventure towards being a runner and bettering my body, it's that sometimes you just have to say no and take care of yourself instead of trying to keep pushing through. And personally, I think there's nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for dropping by! Be sure to check back every week for more of Where I Wander. I have a couple of really fun trips planned over the next couple of weeks, and you won't want to miss where in the world I'm going next.
